The curvature of the septum, that is, the middle wall of the nose, is one of the most common diseases. If the patient does not want the shape of his nose to change in this case, septum deviation – the curvature of the middle of the nose – can be corrected by septoplasty surgery. Septoplasty, a procedure that can be performed under general or local anesthesia, can correct the curvature of the middle portion of the nose by accessing it through the nostril. Silicone pads are placed in the nose following this procedure, which usually takes 30 – 45 minutes. The shape of the nose is not changed; there is no plaster or tape on the outside of the nose. There is no bruising or swelling of the face following this procedure, as there is after rhinoplasty surgery. Generally, patients are discharged from the hospital on the same day. The silicone tampons in the nose are removed 3 to 5 days following surgery. The time to return to everyday life and work is pretty short.
